A new seven-member governing board has been inaugurated for the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) with a charge to deepen fairness, equity, and transparency in public sector compensation in Ghana.
The board is chaired by legal practitioner Samuel Adu-Yeboah of Adom Mbrodo Law Chamber, and includes experienced professionals from law, public service, and employer institutions.
Other members include Dr. George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of the FWSC; Annie Moghtar Mohayideen of S&AC Law; Dr. Prince E. Darah of the Public Services Commission (PSC); Joyce Asiedu-Ofei, representing the Ghana Employers Association; Madam Hilda Ashie, a retired staff of FWSC; and Shadrack Mensah of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
At the swearing-in ceremony, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, urged the board to prioritise fairness and justice in wage administration across the public service.
He emphasised the important role the FWSC plays in good governance and sustainable economic management, noting that addressing disparities in wages is critical to curbing frequent labour unrest.
“You are being entrusted with a mandate that directly impacts public confidence in the state’s commitment to equity. Your work is essential to ensuring that salaries across the public sector are fair, sustainable, and transparent,” the Minister said.
Dr. Pelpuo also called for mechanisms to be developed to reduce pay-related disputes and reiterated the need for an Independent Emoluments Commission to streamline wage administration.
He assured the board of his full cooperation and expressed confidence in their capacity and commitment to deliver on their mandate.
Responding on behalf of the board, Chairperson Samuel Adu-Yeboah thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in them.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to serve our country. We understand the weight of this responsibility and will work diligently to ensure that equity and fairness define our work at the Commission,” he said.
