Renowned investigative journalist and anti-galamsey campaigner, Erastus Asare Donkor, has raised alarm over what he describes as blatant illegal mining (galamsey) activities in Adrobaa Bisi, a security zone within the Tano North Constituency.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 30, he accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Pius Opoku, and local police of turning a blind eye as rivers are polluted with impunity.
“These nature criminals are breaching government’s security zone at Adrobaa Bisi, in the Tano North Constituency. The MCE is watching on. The local police I understand, go there frequently but do nothing,” Mr Donkor wrote.
He revealed that the rivers Bisi and Subri are being heavily polluted by illegal mining activities, warning that the situation amounted to environmental cruelty.
“The Rivers, Bisi and Subri are being polluted with impunity. This is cruel!” he stressed.
Mr Donkor further cautioned political actors alleged to be connected to the activity, urging them to desist.
“If the Tano NDC PC is involved as it’s been alleged, he should desist!” he stated, adding that such complicity would worsen the already dire fight against galamsey.
