The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Kasoa area office has organised a day seminar on the introduction to hazardous and electronic waste control and management Act 917 of 2016.
The seminar is to introduce the Act to the media and also to see give the media insight into the operations of the Agency.
Director of the Kasoa Agency, Mr. Joseph Chagli in an interview with Homebase Tv, listed items that constitute hazardous waste and the dangers they pose to the general public.
Answering what the agency is doing about the menace of illegal mining, Mr. Joseph Chagli, stressed the need for monitoring, which, according to him, is the only way miners who have been issued with permits would be held accountable to do land reclamation after mining.

A program officer of the agency, Mr. Paul Effah Koranteng, entreated residents of Awutu Senya East to be careful of the way they dispose of refuse. He advised that electronic gadgets like TV sets, mobile phones, and refrigerators should not be haphazardly disposed of, since they emit highly toxic Substances.
He disclosed that very soon, the agency Will set up joints where damaged electronic wastes like phones would be bought.
