Eni Ghana, along with its Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) partners Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has completed a major upgrade of its gas processing infrastructure, increasing capacity from 246 to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
The upgrade marks a key milestone in Ghana’s efforts to enhance energy security and transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy. The OCTP project, operational since 2018, now supplies about 70% of the country’s domestic gas needs—most of which fuels electricity generation.
Starting at 210 MMSCFD, the OCTP gas system has steadily expanded capacity through phased improvements. The latest increase to 270 MMSCFD was achieved on July 13, boosting reliable gas supply and further reducing Ghana’s dependence on oil-based power generation.
Currently, natural gas from OCTP powers approximately 34% of Ghana’s electricity, supplying homes, industries, and businesses with a more stable and environmentally friendly energy source.
Eni Ghana’s Managing Director commented, “This upgrade reflects the strength of our partnerships and our shared commitment to Ghana’s energy transition and long-term sustainability.”
Eni holds a 44.4% stake and operates the OCTP project, with Vitol owning 35.6% and GNPC holding the remaining 20%. Beyond energy, the partnership supports community development initiatives in training, water and sanitation access, and economic diversification.
Eni has been active in Ghana since 2009 and currently produces about 34,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
