The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) will host its 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Engineering Conference in Ho, bringing together engineers, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and development partners to explore how engineering innovation can strengthen food security and sustainable agricultural systems.

The conference, which is under the theme “Engineering the food security and sustainable agriculture value chain”, will examine how technology, infrastructure, and engineering expertise can transform agricultural productivity, improve food systems, and support inclusive economic growth in Ghana and across the region.

The five-day event is expected to attract participants from Ghana and internationally, including delegates from Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Sierra Leone and other countries.

Participants will engage in technical sessions, policy dialogues, exhibitions, and networking forums focused on practical solutions across the agricultural value chain from production and irrigation systems to processing, storage, logistics, and market access.

“Engineering innovation is central to building resilient food systems and sustainable agricultural value chains,” said Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

“This conference will provide a platform for engineers and stakeholders to exchange ideas, showcase solutions, and strengthen partnerships that can accelerate Ghana’s progress toward food security and sustainable development.”

According to the chair of the Conference and Programme Committee, Ing Dr. Lucy Agyepong, the event will also strengthen collaboration across sectors and highlight the role of engineering in addressing development challenges.

“The conference will bring together diverse expertise from across the engineering community to explore how innovation, technology, and infrastructure can transform agriculture and strengthen the food value chain. Hosting the conference in Ho also creates an opportunity to deepen regional engagement and inspire the next generation of engineers,” the chair noted.

In addition to technical discussions, the 56th Annual General Meeting will enable members of the Ghana Institution of Engineering to review the institution’s activities over the past year, deliberate on issues affecting the engineering profession, and set strategic priorities for the future.

Through this gathering, the Ghana Institution of Engineering aims to reinforce the role of engineering as a key driver of innovation, food security, and sustainable development in Ghana and across Africa.
