Engage Now Africa has commissioned a new six-unit classroom block for the Ayagitam Primary School at Saboro, a community in Chiana in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

The NGO is dedicated to providing resources and training to vulnerable populations in communities.

The school was once marked by makeshift shelters and old pavilions, which made teaching and learning difficult.

Despite years of efforts, the community’s quest for quality education infrastructure for the Ayagitam Primary School, named after a great Chief of the town, did not yield any major results.

The chairman of the School’s Management Committee, Charles Bugani, who himself attended the school as a child in 1986, said the poor nature of the infrastructure today led to a decline in enrollment.

“This NGO came to commission a borehole, and we told them that we have a school that was in a bad state in this community. When they came to look at the school, the director of the NGO (Engage Now Africa) said she would not allow her child to sit in this school”, Bugani said.

After inspecting the old structure, a new 6-unit classroom block project was later started.

The project was made possible through the support of the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation and Engage Now Africa’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged communities.

The facilities in the school include a library, the head teacher’s office, a staff common room, and a mechanised borehole to provide water for the school and parts of the community.

Engage Now Africa’s Project Officer, Cecelia Amankwah, said, “Our goal is to provide quality education infrastructure that nurtures future leaders. We believe that when children have the right environment, they can surpass all limits and lead transformation in their communities.”

Chairperson for the ASEA Advancing Life Foundation, Kimmarie Larsen, was excited to see the joy that the new school project had brought to the community.

“At ASEA, we believe in powering the potential of people, and that is inclusive of the people here in Ghana. We know that it is so important for us to give children the opportunity to learn so that they can have a brighter future”, she said.

“As I looked into the eyes of the mothers, it was beautiful to see their joy that their children will be able to have an education. Our hearts are full, and we are so grateful to be here with the community and with the leaders, and are grateful for the parents of these children for encouraging them to come to school”, Larsen added.

The Saboro community was overjoyed as the women danced in a show of gratitude.

An elder of the community who addressed the gathering said, “We asked for a 6-unit classroom block, and we have been given a 6-unit modern school complex. It is more than we could have hoped for, and we cannot thank the donors enough for this beautiful project”.
