Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has paid a working visit to the Energy Commission as part of his familiarisation tour of agencies under the Ministry.
Mr Jinapor commended the Commission for its vital role in ensuring compliance with energy standards and called for continued dialogue to deepen collaboration.
He also reaffirmed the Commission’s position as a strategic adviser to the Ministry.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ing. Eunice A. Biritwum, presented a detailed overview of the Commission’s mandate, organisational structure, vision, achievements, and current challenges.
Key highlights of the visit included the launch of a solar-powered electric vehicle charging station, the development of national electric vehicle (EV) standards, enforcement of appliance efficiency regulations, and the certification of over 18,000 professionals under the Electrical Wiring Regulations—all in alignment with the energy transition vision championed by President John Dramani Mahama.
During an engagement with staff, Mr Jinapor praised the Commission’s performance and encouraged personnel to approach their roles with a strong sense of commitment and ownership.
“The role of this Commission cannot be overemphasised. Treat this organisation as if it is your own. Do your best to serve Ghana, and as Minister, I will continue to advocate for your welfare,” he stated.
The visit was warmly received by staff and management, who expressed appreciation for the Minister’s openness, vision, and encouragement to push forward Ghana’s green energy agenda.
Following his meeting at the Commission, Mr Jinapor also engaged with the Chairman and staff of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), where he was briefed on the organisation’s regional mandate in regulating cross-border electricity exchange within the ECOWAS sub-region.
