The Embassies of Ghana in Rome and Vatican celebrated Ghana’s 69th Independence Day with a vibrant three-day event from 6th March to 8th March, 2026. The event highlighted Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, remarkable achievements and its continued commitment to international engagement and economic development.

Held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope”, the event witnessed participation from Italian Government officials, diplomats, the business community, compatriots and friends of Ghana.

The celebrations officially commenced on 6th March, 2026 at Rome Cavalieri Hotel, with a special address from Her Excellency Mrs. Mona-Helen Kabuki Quartey, Ambassador of Ghana to the Italian Republic, and His Excellency Sir Ben Assorrow, Ambassador of Ghana to the Holy See. Both Ambassadors reflected on Ghana’s journey to independence, its national progress and the significant contributions of the Ghanaian diaspora to the country’s growth, setting the tone for the festivities.

Subsequent to the above, a business forum was held to promote Ghana as a prime destination for investment and partnership. Discussions centred on key sectors such as agriculture, agro-business, ICT, infrastructure and services. Italian companies already operating in Ghana and representatives from the public and private sectors were invited to share success stories and explore future collaboration, such as BF International and AVASSAC, a cassava processing company.

On Saturday 7th March, 2026 a trade fair was held at the Society of the Divine Word (SVD). The fair featured exhibitions of Ghanaian textiles, traditional music, dance and storytelling, offering a vibrant showcase of Ghana’s cultural diversity and artistic excellence. Visitors also explored Ghanaian arts, crafts, fashion, and culinary traditions, providing an engaging and immersive experience that fostered greater appreciation for the country’s rich and dynamic culture.
