Residents of Dawhenya North in the Greater Accra Region have received a major boost to healthcare delivery with the commissioning of a modern Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Centre, reconstructed and equipped under Ecobank Ghana’s Employee Volunteerism Project.
Valued at approximately GH₵500,000, the project was delivered as part of the bank’s third edition of its flagship ‘Mega Project’, which focuses on improving maternal and child health.
Speaking at the commissioning, Ecobank’s Executive Director and Regional Head of Consumer Banking, Tara Squire, described the initiative as a testament to the bank’s commitment to community development.
“We are planting the seeds of a healthier future for mothers and children in Dawhenya and its surrounding communities,” Mr Squire said.
He expressed gratitude to the management of the CHPS Centre for their cooperation, and to Asafoatse Gyebi II for releasing an additional parcel of land to expand the facility.
He noted that the centre, which once operated from a converted kenkey house in 2002, now has the capacity to serve more patients with upgraded infrastructure and essential equipment.
The event also highlighted Ecobank’s efforts to promote financial inclusion. Alongside the commissioning, the bank launched a week-long campaign encouraging community members particularly mothers attending antenatal and postnatal care to open savings accounts for their families’ future security.
Mr Squire explained that the initiative is unique because it mobilises the personal contributions of over 1,500 Ecobank staff nationwide, which the bank then matches to maximise impact. “The enormous voluntary participation of staff in this initiative is a testament to our shared commitment to community development,” he said.
Over the past three decades, Ecobank has supported underserved communities across Ghana through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. Mr Squire reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to uplifting lives, especially women and children, through sustainable projects.
“As we like to say, ‘One facility at a time, one community at a time’—this is how we demonstrate our unwavering dedication to community development,” he said.
