EC Announces Nomination Receipt Dates for 2024 General Elections

Accra, Ghana [1 August 2024] – The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the timeline for receiving nominations for the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024. The nomination period will run from Monday, September 9, to Friday, September 13, 2024.

Interested candidates for the presidential and parliamentary elections are required to download the nomination forms from the EC’s official website starting Friday, August 2, 2024.

In a detailed press release, the EC outlined the nomination process:

  1. Presidential Nomination: Candidates must use the official nomination forms provided by the Commission from the Commission’s website (https://ec.gov.gh/forms/) from Friday, 2nd August, 2024.
  2. Signature Requirements: Completed nomination forms must be signed by the candidate and at least two registered voters from each district assembly.
  3. Vice Presidential Designation: The forms must designate the individual who will serve as Vice President.
  4. Form Submission: Forms must be submitted in quadruplicate and delivered personally by the presidential candidate or two of the registered voters who signed the forms.
  5. Photographs: Candidates must submit four recent post-card-sized photographs with a red background, showing the full face and ears.
  6. Submission Timings: Forms can be submitted at the EC Head Office from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day.
  7. Nomination Fee: Presidential candidates must pay a fee of GH¢ 100,000 via banker’s draft addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

It emphasized the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent nomination process. This initiative aligns with the EC’s commitment to maintaining fairness, transparency, and integrity in the electoral process.
