The Design and Technology Institute (DTI), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has graduated a new class of Mastercraft Persons and Artisans trained under the “Precision Quality at Work” initiative.
The ceremony, held at the National Theatre in Accra, marked the completion of Phase Two of the project aimed at elevating the standards and competitiveness of Ghana’s informal sector.
Speaking at the event, DTI Founder and President, Constance Swaniker, hailed the graduates as a “new cadre of highly skilled, quality-driven artisans” ready to transform the informal sector and integrate it into the larger Ghanaian economy.
She emphasised that the training went beyond technical skills, equipping participants with the mindset, discipline, and professionalism needed to meet global standards.
“The informal sector employs millions and remains the backbone of everyday economic activity in Ghana,” Ms. Swaniker noted. “By adopting precision, quality, and integrity, our artisans can drive industrialisation, create jobs, and build a globally competitive Ghanaian brand.”
The initiative, supported by strategic partners such as the Registrar General’s Department and Fidelity Bank, focuses on helping artisans formalise their businesses, access finance, comply with standards, and embrace continuous upskilling.
Graduates were urged to serve as change agents in their communities by mentoring apprentices, innovating, and building customer trust through reliability and accountability.
Ms. Swaniker expressed gratitude to the Mastercard Foundation for its unwavering support and called on graduates to let “precision be your habit, quality be your signature, and integrity be your legacy.”
The event underscored the potential of Ghana’s informal sector to play a central role in national development when empowered with the right skills and mindset
