DreamPower Africa, a pioneering clean energy and e-mobility company, is stepping forward to support the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in achieving its net zero carbon emissions target by 2035.

In a significant move to solidify Ghana’s leadership in sustainable energy, the company has proposed the establishment of an Innovation Institute for Sustainable Energy, in collaboration with KNUST.

According to the company, this proposed institute aims to serve as a national hub for cutting-edge research and development in clean energy technologies, e-mobility, and circular economy systems. The initiative aligns closely with KNUST’s ambitious energy policy, which seeks to reach 50% renewable energy integration by 2030 and achieve complete net zero emissions by 2035.

During a strategic meeting held on Wednesday between DreamPower Africa and management of KNUST, both parties expressed strong enthusiasm about the proposed partnership. The DreamPower team was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Andre Labuschagne, who emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing Ghana’s clean energy agenda.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, revealed that the university’s peak energy consumption currently stands at 8 megawatts (MW), with only 2.2 MW currently generated from renewable sources. She emphasized the financial constraints that have hindered progress in KNUST’s clean energy transition and welcomed DreamPower’s offer to collaborate and invest in sustainable solutions.

“DreamPower is committed to supporting institutions like KNUST with not just technology, but with capacity building, training, and innovation that can drive long-term climate resilience and inclusive economic growth,” he said.

The Innovation Institute will not only enhance local research capabilities, but also offer technical training, entrepreneurial incubation, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“DreamPower Africa remains at the forefront of Africa’s sustainable energy transformation.By blending international expertise with local knowledge, we are committed to supporting Ghana in becoming a benchmark for a just, inclusive, and resilient energy transition, beginning with institutions like KNUST,” said Chief Technical Officer, Nicholas Kohne.

The proposed partnership also forms part of a broader effort by DreamPower to align with Ghana’s 2025 Vision, Green Transition Agenda, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The company has extended an invitation to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, along with other relevant government bodies, to engage in discussions to activate the first phase of implementation.
