Ghanaian legislator and humanitarian, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has been appointed to represent Ghana at the Pan African Parliament (PAP), marking a new chapter in her political and continental leadership journey.

The appointment positions the three-term Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle among Ghana’s official delegation to the PAP, the legislative arm of the African Union (AU).

The Pan African Parliament brings together representatives from all AU member states to advance democratic governance, unity, and cooperation across the continent. By design, each delegation must include at least one woman, ensuring gender balance in Africa’s premier parliamentary body.

A Growing Role on the African Stage

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’s selection reflects her rising influence beyond Ghana’s borders and her expanding role in shaping continental policy discussions. Her diverse background—as a medical doctor, environmental activist, conflict resolution practitioner, and a prominent voice in national politics—makes her a natural fit for the position.

Her appointment is also expected to bolster Ghana’s contribution to Pan African policy dialogue, particularly in areas of security, governance, women’s empowerment, and youth development.

In Ghana’s Parliament, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings currently serves as the Chairperson of the Committee on Security and Intelligence, one of the most sensitive and strategic committees in the House. She is also a member of the Committees on Defence and Interior, Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, and the Petitions Committee.

Her advocacy extends to international and gender-focused platforms. She is the Chairperson of the Ghana-Algeria Friendship Association in Parliament and Co-Chair of the Women Legislators in Defence (WLID) Network, a group promoting female leadership in security policymaking across Africa.

Promoting Pan African Unity

The Pan African Parliament, headquartered in Midrand, South Africa, serves as a continental forum for dialogue, aiming to promote Pan African ideals, harmonise policies, and strengthen collaboration between Africa’s national parliaments.

With her appointment, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings joins a distinguished group of Ghanaian representatives tasked with helping the PAP achieve its mandate of fostering integration, good governance, and human rights protection across Africa.

Her participation is expected to amplify Ghana’s voice in continental affairs while advancing her own commitment to equity, social justice, and regional cooperation.
