From local brilliance to national acclaim, two standout alumni of the Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz (KMSQ), Cephas Nana Odei and Harrison Nana Odei, are once again in the spotlight now as key players in Ofori Panin Senior High School’s (OPASS) 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) campaign.
The brothers, products of Nkronso M/A JHS and champions of KMSQ’s third edition, played an instrumental role in securing OPASS’s spot in the Eastern Regional qualifiers, reaffirming their status as rising stars in Ghana’s academic landscape.
Their journey from a grassroots STEM contest in Abuakwa South Constituency to the national stage, highlights the power of early academic investment and the impact of nurturing potential at the basic school level.
Launched under the leadership of the Abuakwa South MP, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the ‘Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz’ has, since 2020, become a trusted incubator of young scientific talent.
Its annual competition aims to discover and mentor JHS students with strong promise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
This latest success story isn’t an outlier. The very first KMSQ winners also went on to make their mark at the NSMQ, underscoring the quiz’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for excellence.
Reacting to the news, organisers hailed the feat as a clear validation of the quiz’s long-term vision: planting early seeds of excellence that blossom on national platforms.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our former champions thriving,” said a coordinator.
“Their progress is a testament to what deliberate mentorship and community-driven initiatives can achieve.”
With OPASS aiming high in this year’s NSMQ, all eyes are on Cephas and Harrison as they carry the hopes of their school and the pride of their municipality.
Their story continues to inspire, a reminder that with vision, structure, and support, young minds from local communities can rise to lead in Ghana’s academic elite.
