Member of Parliament for Tano North in the Ahafo region, Dr. Gideon Boako, has commenced a massive distribution of educational materials to 2,200 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, in a major boost to education in the constituency.

The initiative, which kicked off in Duayaw-Nkwanta and moved to Bomaa on Thursday, April 2, is part of a broader strategy by the legislator to enhance academic performance and ease the financial burden on parents within the enclave.

Dr. Boako’s intervention is designed as a structured support system that follows students from their final exams into senior high school.

Earlier this week, 700 students in the Duayaw-Nkwanta zone received mathematical sets, followed by another 368 students in Bomaa. This rollout will continue until all 2,200 candidates across the constituency are equipped for their exams.

Upon successful placement into second-cycle institutions, the MP has pledged to provide every candidate with a student’s trunk (chop box), a school bag, a scientific calculator, and exercise books, ensuring a stress-free transition to second-cycle institutions.

“You can achieve all life aspirations no matter how or where you come from,” Dr. Boako told the students, urging them to remain resilient in their studies.

Since becoming an MP, Dr. Boako has transformed the educational landscape of Tano North by moving beyond basic supplies to funding high-end professional degrees.

A standout achievement of his tenure is the Medical School Scholarship Scheme. Last year, Dr. Boako sponsored 20 constituents to study Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

During Thursday’s event, he confirmed that an additional 20 students will be supported this year, bringing his total sponsorship to 40 future doctors from the constituency.

He had also paid the academic fees of over 138 tertiary students from his constituency last year and has promised to replicate it annually, ensuring that no talent and mind is left behind untapped in the constituency.

The Paramount Queen mother of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional Area, Nana Serwaa Nyarko, lauded the MP’s selfless service and his commitment to raising the standard of human resource development. She particularly welcomed his decision to make this support an annual affair.

The Queen mother encouraged the candidates to strive for “convincing victories” in their examinations, noting that quality education is a bridge to opportunities once thought impossible.

She further urged a collaboration between government agencies, parents, teachers, and religious institutions to ensure the realization of holistic education in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Betty Adjoa Adjeiwaa of the Duayaw-Nkwanta Presbyterian Basic School expressed deep appreciation for the MP’s timely response to their needs, assuring that “we would work hard to achieve higher heights and justify the investment made in their future”.

With this latest gesture, Dr. Boako continues to solidify his reputation as a legislator dedicated to ensuring that financial constraints do not act as a barrier to academic excellence for the youth of Tano North.
