Dr Emmanuel Nortey-Adom wins 2025 FortyUnder40 Ghana Award for transforming healthcare innovation

Dr Emmanuel Elorm Nortey-Adom, a Ghanaian physician and healthcare strategist, has been named the winner of the 2025 FortyUnder40 Ghana Awards in the Health Category, recognising his transformational impact on healthcare delivery and innovation in Ghana.

Over the past several years, Dr. Nortey-Adom has pioneered practical, community-driven solutions to some of Ghana’s most pressing health challenges, particularly in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.

As Co-Founder of the OT Cares Foundation, he has led community health programs that have directly reached over 20,000 people across Accra, Cape Coast, and the Northern Regions.

Through flagship initiatives like OT Hits the Streets and Miles for Smiles: Breasts Matter, the Foundation has combined health education with grassroots outreach while training more than 1,000 community health workers.

This approach has become a practical model for strengthening primary healthcare delivery at the community level.

In the private health sector, Dr Nortey-Adom has also redefined access to essential medicines through NR Meds Pharmaceuticals, which he co-founded.

The company supplies critical medical consumables—including catheters, sterile lubricants, and diagnostic tools for cancer and reproductive health procedures—and has distributed more than 10,000 units since its inception.

By implementing a lean supply chain model, NR Meds has reduced procurement costs by an average of 15% for hospitals and diagnostic centres, helping prevent delays in life-saving procedures and making essential care more affordable and accessible nationwide.

During his tenure as Lead General Practitioner at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Dr Nortey-Adom championed early detection and prevention of chronic diseases through large-scale medical screening programs that reached more than 4,000 individuals.

These screenings helped identify early cases of hypertension, diabetes, and cancer, linking patients to specialist care.

He also promoted Euracare’s advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, expanding local access to treatments for complex conditions such as brain aneurysms and retinoblastoma—previously requiring referrals abroad.

His work helped position Euracare as a regional leader in precision diagnostics and minimally invasive therapies.

Dr. Nortey-Adom’s influence extends beyond Ghana. At Johns Hopkins University in the United States, he earned dual postgraduate degrees—a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) focused on healthcare, technology, and innovation.

He was inducted into both the Delta Omega Honour Society and Beta Gamma Sigma, recognising him among the top 10% of graduates globally.

He has also contributed to academic research on medical career choices in Ghana and continues to engage in projects in oncology and digital health.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-led a fundraising campaign that raised approximately £5,000 to supply personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers across Ghana—a gesture that demonstrated his commitment to national health emergencies.

Internationally, Dr Nortey-Adom has been invited to speak at major global forums, including United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) side events on health equity and the Unstoppable Africa event by the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI)—a platform co-founded by the UN Global Compact and the African Union.

There, he engaged with thought leaders on how African-led innovations can tackle both local and global health challenges.

He currently serves as a Senior Consultant in Life Sciences, advising multinational pharmaceutical and medical technology companies on strategies to bring innovations to market and expand equitable access to healthcare.

Dr Nortey-Adom’s selection for the FortyUnder40 Ghana Award comes as a fitting acknowledgement of his leadership, innovation, and measurable impact.

The award, which honours young achievers driving national development, celebrates not only his visionary approach to healthcare transformation but also the enduring systems he has built to improve lives.

In recognising him, the FortyUnder40 Ghana Awards highlight a changemaker whose influence cuts across community health, pharmaceutical innovation, and international health policy—making him one of the most deserving honorees in this year’s health category.
