Dr Adutwum stands tall among NPP presidential candidates – Kusi Boafo

A former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Sector Reforms Secretariat, Thomas Kusi Boafo, has described former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum as the most formidable and unifying candidate among those aspiring to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

Mr Kusi Boafo said Dr Adutwum embodies the integrity, vision, and unblemished political record that the party urgently needs to rebuild its image and reconnect with the Ghanaian electorate following its 2024 electoral defeat.

Speaking on Nhyira FM’s Morning Show hosted by Nana Jantuah in Kumasi, Mr Kusi Boafo praised the former Minister as “a leader with little political baggage”, adding that his humility, competence, and clean track record make him stand tall among all other presidential aspirants.

“Dr Adutwum stands tall among all the candidates because he is the one with little baggage. If he can unite the party, he will be successful,” he stated.

The outspoken political commentator expressed concern about the deep divisions and infighting in the NPP, warning that the party’s chances of returning to power in 2028 would depend largely on its ability to close ranks after the presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

He observed that the internal acrimony, name-calling, and baseless accusations being traded among supporters of various camps are damaging the party’s image and undermining efforts to present a united front.

“After insulting and throwing wild allegations against opposing candidates, how are you going to campaign for the choice of the delegates who may not be your preferred candidate?” he asked, urging party faithful to focus on promoting unity and issue-based discourse rather than personal attacks.

Mr Kusi Boafo further argued that the NPP needed a transformational leader with a clear vision for national development, one who could restore public confidence and inspire both party members and ordinary Ghanaians.

He said Dr Adutwum’s impressive record in the education sector, particularly his efforts to expand access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, demonstrated his capacity for innovative and inclusive leadership.

He insisted that electing Dr Adutwum as the party’s flagbearer would mark a new dawn for the NPP, symbolising renewal, reconciliation and hope.

“Given what has happened since the party lost power in 2024, I am convinced that Dr Adutwum’s leadership will give the NPP the best chance to rebuild and win back the confidence of Ghanaians,” he stated.

Mr Kusi Boafo called on party delegates to prioritise unity, discipline, and character over personal loyalty or financial inducement as they prepare to select the next NPP leader.

He expressed optimism that with the right leadership, the party could overcome its current challenges and reclaim power in 2028.
