Don’t elect a leader who will insult world figures at the UN – Atta Akyea tells NPP delegates

Former Minister for Works and Housing and senior lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to exercise sound judgment as they prepare to select the next flagbearer.

He warned against electing anyone who may embarrass Ghana on the international stage.

Speaking at a gathering of party faithful at Mpraeso in the Eastern region, Mr Atta Akyea cautioned delegates not to “make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations”.

Mr Atta Akyea stressed that Ghana’s global reputation must remain intact, particularly at high-level platforms such as the UN General Assembly, where decorum and diplomacy are crucial.

According to the former minister, the next leader must possess the temperament, maturity and statesmanship required to engage constructively with the international community.
