An aide to former President John Mahama says the minority in Parliament cannot be blamed entirely for the country’s bad governance.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Ghanaians had to share the blame since they re-elected President Akufo-Addo despite his countless shortcomings.

His comments were a response to a question on Newsfile on why the minority had failed to vote against ministerial nominees despite the calls by the citizen to downsize.

“The leadership and general membership of the NDC remains implacably opposed to the obnoxious policies of this unhitched reckless and in some instances, utterly useless government that has become an albatross around our neck and many of the things that this government has done has met with the disapproval of large sections of the Ghanaian population.

“The Ghanaian people have the responsibility to watch who they elect into office, you see you cannot go and elect a useless government and shift the burden of policing them on another party,” he said.

Mr Ofosu explained that the citizen had a role to play in governance since they are supposed to elect the right people into office.

He stressed despite countless campaigns against President Akufo-Addo, the Ghanaian populace still voted him into office, thus the minority can not be blamed for the consequences that come with their actions.

“People like myself for the better part of a decade have railed against him and spoken about the fact that he is going to do exactly what he was doing in power.

“Some people labelled as babies with sharp teeth vilified us and called us all sorts of names somehow went to elect him, today he had driven the worst governance ever seen under the Fourth Republic if not in our entire history so the electorate too must take the share of the burden that when you see that a leader is wrong and cannot govern you don’t go and elect him,” he told host, Samson Lardy Anyenini.

When asked why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had all 136 members yet failed to vote against the ministerial nominees, he said, “the pulse of the nation was to reject Akufo-Addo at the polls, especially after what he did between 2016 and 2020 if that has been done we will not be having this conversation.

“You see what Akufo-Addo has done is blue murder, he has destroyed our country, when it comes to our economy we are a laughing stock. He has reduced as in the eyes of well-meaning people.”

However, he said although a majority of the NDC legislators voted against the ministerial nominees, it was not enough since a few of them let Ghanaians down.
