The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Yussif Sulemana, has cut the sod for six major infrastructure projects at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks a significant milestone in the development of the school, addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps.

The projects include a 16-bed teachers’ bungalow with ancillary facilities and new dormitories for students.

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources also handed over sites for the construction of a state-of-the-art assembly hall, as well as ultra-modern ICT and science laboratories.

Funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), the projects aim to expand infrastructure at the school and ease pressure on existing facilities.

“The Bole Senior High School has been abandoned for a very long time. As I said, if you had seen where students eat, in terms of the dining facility, it was an eyesore. Many calls were made but there was no response, and today we believe the time has come for us to provide these facilities,” the MP said.

The MP assured the contractor of timely payment upon completion and warned against substandard work.

“I am here to encourage the contractor and also to make it clear that we mean business and will not accept any shoddy work. The contractor must ensure the quality of work meets the required standards so that when we request more projects, they will also be considered for additional work,” he added.

The project manager for Blessings Company Ltd, the contractor for the projects, promised quality work and timely completion for the benefit of the school.

“So far, three projects have been awarded — the girls’ and boys’ dormitories, which are one-storey structures, and the teachers’ bungalow. I am not the type of contractor who abandons sites, and I assure you that the work will be completed,” he said.

For his part, the headteacher, Abubakari Mahama Salia, commended the MP and the government for the initiative and pledged the school’s full support for the construction.

“We are greatly overwhelmed by what the Honourable MP is doing. A short while ago, he led GETFund officials to this school and told us that the school was going to receive many projects. The staff and I were very sceptical because we thought it might not happen. But what we are seeing today opens the floodgates for many exciting possibilities, as several projects are now underway in the school,” he said.

The projects are expected to be completed within 18 months.
