In a swift humanitarian response, Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman in the Eastern region, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has extended urgent support to victims of severe flooding in Frankadua.
On Sunday, June 15, torrential rains submerged 16 homes and displaced dozens of residents in the farming community along the Ho-Accra highway.

The floods, described by locals as the worst they had ever experienced, swept through the community, destroying farmlands, damaging personal property, and bringing everyday life, including education, to a standstill.
Many affected residents have sought temporary shelter in local school classrooms.

Moved by the scale of the devastation, Mr Ampem Nyarko visited the affected area on Monday, 16th June, to express solidarity with victims and provide immediate assistance.
Accompanied by Teddy Addi Safori, Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the MP donated GH₵2,000 to each of the 16 affected households as an interim relief measure.

“I assure you of my unwavering commitment to helping restore your lives and supporting recovery efforts,” the MP told victims.
He also pledged to advocate for the dredging of local waterways to help mitigate future disasters.
NADMO has since commenced a full assessment of the damage and has offered additional relief.
NADMO gave buckets, tissue, insecticide spray, used clothes, mattresses, mosquito nets, and toiletries to the victims.
The District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Godwin Bobobee, is mobilising further local support, working closely with the MP to deliver sustained assistance to the community.

One of the affected residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MP, stating, “His presence and support have brought us hope. This assistance will help us to start rebuilding our lives.”
The disaster has reignited concerns about climate resilience and disaster preparedness in vulnerable communities such as Frankadua.
