Deputy Finance Minister hails ADB’s remarkable turnaround, record growth and rising confidence

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has praised the Board, Management and staff of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC for what he described as a remarkable turnaround that has led to historic growth and improved performance.

He gave the commendation while opening the 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the ADB Local Union of the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance (UNICOF) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), held at Miklin in Accra.

The Deputy Minister highlighted ADB’s strong financial showing, noting that the Bank posted a profit before tax of GH¢447.49 million in the third quarter of 2025. This, he said, represents a 154 per cent increase over the same period in 2024.

He attributed the Bank’s expanding balance sheet, improved operational efficiency, and renewed public confidence to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of its Board, Management, and staff.

“The strong financial performance ADB recorded doesn’t happen by chance but as a result of discipline, professionalism, and collaboration between management and staff of the Bank,” Mr Nyarko Ampem stated.

He urged Management, the union and staff to maintain constructive engagement and teamwork to build a sustainable institution admired globally for its people, processes and performance.

He encouraged them to work towards achieving the Bank’s vision of becoming one of the top three performing banks in Ghana, while reaffirming government’s support for ADB’s strategic goals.

Mr Nyarko Ampem also described 2025 as a turning point for Ghana’s economy, citing easing inflation, improved cedi stability, ongoing fiscal consolidation, and the gradual return of investor confidence.

He said these gains were the result of tough reforms and the resilience of workers across all sectors, including the banking industry.

He stressed that macroeconomic stability must translate into stronger institutions, adding that, in turn, these institutions must invest in their workforce to sustain growth and competitiveness.

Earlier, the Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, reaffirmed Management’s commitment to staff engagement and dialogue.

He outlined the Bank’s transformation agenda under Project 135, which aims to improve performance, strengthen operational efficiency, and reposition ADB as a competitive and people-centred institution under its Beyond Banking identity.

Mr Ato Sarpong said the Bank will continue to roll out innovative products and services, expand its digital channels and open more branches to enhance convenience and bring banking closer to customers.

He added that service excellence remains a hallmark of ADB, with steps being taken to deliver service experiences that delight customers across all channels.

Mr Sarpong also reiterated Management’s unwavering commitment to staff welfare, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Bank.

The conference brought together top officials and staff of ADB, union executives and guests. New union executives were later elected to steer the local union’s affairs.
