Delta relaunches Accra-Atlanta non-stop flights; Canada service to follow

Ghana’s efforts to boost its economic and travel connectivity have received a major lift with the commencement of new long-haul non-stop flight services to North America, significantly enhancing access to key markets in the United States and Canada.

Delta Air Lines officially began its resumed non-stop route from Accra to Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, December 1, 2025, providing travellers with a direct gateway to the U.S. Southeast and a major international hub.

The exciting development was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a public post on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The minister highlighted the strategic importance of the route in achieving Ghana’s foreign policy objectives.

“I am excited about the reintroduction of Delta Air Lines’ non-stop flight from Accra to Atlanta, which commenced operations yesterday,” the Minister said, describing the development as a major boost for travel convenience.

Atlanta, headquarters of Delta and the world’s busiest airport (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport), serves as a crucial link for Ghanaian businesses, the large Ghanaian diaspora in the U.S., and American tourists seeking to visit West Africa.

Further bolstering Ghana’s international air access, Minister Ablakwa announced a second, historic development with Air Transat of Canada.

Mr Ablakwa noted that Ghana also applauds Air Transat of Canada for initiating a historic non-stop flight from Accra to Canada, set to begin operations on June 17, 2026.

This upcoming route will establish the first dedicated non-stop link between Ghana and Canada, a country with a vibrant and growing Ghanaian diaspora, offering significant opportunities for trade and bilateral relations.

The Foreign Affairs Minister underscored the practical benefits these new routes will bring to both national development and individual travellers:

“These refreshing developments will accelerate our economic diplomacy objectives, boost trade and tourism, and offer value and convenience mainly to Ghanaian travellers,” he added.

The direct services are expected to:

  • Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Deepen political and diplomatic relationships between Ghana, the United States, and Canada.
  • Facilitate Business Engagements: Provide easier and faster access for investors and business delegations.
  • Enhance Tourism Opportunities: Reduce travel fatigue and cost for tourists, boosting Ghana’s tourism sector.

The reintroduction of the Atlanta route and the launch of the Canada service position Ghana as an increasingly vital air travel hub in West Africa, connecting it more seamlessly to the North American continent.
