Ghana's first ever Sitting Volleyball team at West Africa Para Games

Team Ghana put up another strong performance on Day five of the maiden West Africa Zone A & B Para Games in Abeokuta, Nigeria, securing multiple podium finishes across several disciplines.

Ghana’s Sitting Volleyball team made history by capturing bronze in their debut international appearance.

Led by head coach Seidu Ajanako, the squad – Rashad Mohammed Rahmat, Faisal Sey, Nfodzo Patrick, Eric Agyekum, Fadiga Mohammed, Christian Asamoah, Fatawu Chambers, Alfred Asiedu Bosu, and Christian Fiashide – bounced back from a defeat to Nigeria to earn the country’s first medal in the sport.

In Para Table Tennis, duo Abdul Aziz Abbey and Isaac Ampofo added another bronze to the tally in the doubles event.

Para Shooting also delivered success, with Emmanuel Amobire winning gold in the rifle category.

Ghana continued to shine in Wheelchair Basketball, claiming silver medals in both the Women’s division and the mixed category.

Wheelchair Tennis proved to be one of Ghana’s strongest disciplines on the day, producing six medals.

Bridget Nartey earned bronze in the ladies’ singles, while Stacy Konadu Mensah won silver. The duo teamed up for another silver in the ladies’ doubles.

In the men’s doubles, Daniel Laryea and Bernard Yawson secured silver, while Laryea partnered Mensah to win bronze in the mixed doubles. Wasila Baba also impressed, taking silver in the quad event.

Para Athletics added five more medals to the haul. Addai Hayford secured his second medal of the Games with silver in the T46/47 400m final, clocking 53.05 seconds, while Koffie Bright finished third in 58.05 seconds.

In the T53/54 1500m final, Hussien Abdul Gafar claimed bronze with a time of 4:41.17.

Veteran athlete Botsyo Nkegbe took silver in the T53/54 400m final, and Kwubetegr Diana added bronze in the T46/47/38 women’s 400m final with 75.28 seconds.

Ghana entered Day Four with 16 medals already secured and matched that tally again on the day, bringing the confirmed total to 32 medals so far.

The maiden West Africa Zone A & B Para Games continue in Abeokuta and will end on December 3.
