David Nakousi wins FNB Accra Marathon for second consecutive year

University of Ghana student David Nakousi has successfully defended his First Nations Bank Accra Marathon title following his triumph on Saturday, November 8.

Nakousi, who won the men’s 15km race last year, was once again the star of this year’s marathon as he beat off competition to retain the title. `

The annual athletics programme was organised by the Dansoman Keep Fit Club, with First National Bank being the headline sponsors.

Nakousi was first to cross the finish line at the Dansoman Keep Fit Club in the male category of the 21.1km race, an increased distance from the last edition.

Ishmael Arthur came second in the category while Kenya’s Florence Kichira came first in the female category of the 21.1km race. She was followed closely by Mariana Aidoo and Joyce Ayaaba.

The event featured three categories of runs, including the Junior run, 21.1km race for both male and female and the 10km corporate race.

Collins Mensah won the male 10km corporate race while South Africa’s Busisiwe Maile came first in the female category.

The marathon is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana Education Service and Ghana Athletics. In attendance at this year’s event was also the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Reverend Kweku Addo.

The winners were presented with cash prizes and souvenirs from other sponsors, while participants were given consolation souvenirs.

Over a thousand individuals were involved in this year’s event, with schools such as Accra Academy, Presbyterian Boys (Legon PRESEC), St. Mary’s Girls, WASS and Armed Forces all being involved in this year’s event.
