About a decade ago, David Tweneboah Koduah was a student at the University of Cape Coast, contemplating his future.

He’s heading to France as the sole Ghanaian referee for the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Koduah, a Level 2 licensed referee for goalball—a sport designed for athletes with vision impairment—received his appointment in September last year.

He humorously recounted when he informed his wife of the news: “She wanted to come with me, but I told her it’s impossible.”

His journey into goalball began unexpectedly in 2014 when he was asked to train a visually impaired team for a friendly match.

Despite having no prior knowledge of the sport, Koduah’s enthusiasm led him to seek training through videos and courses in Ivory Coast and Egypt.

He earned his Level 2 license two years ago and has since officiated at various international events, including the International Blind Sports Association African Championships in Egypt.

As he officiates at the Paralympics, Koduah is driven by a broader vision.

“I want to work on developing blind sports globally,” he said, eager to learn from experienced professionals and significantly impact the field.

Since the games started on August 29, Koduah has already officiated in three matches, marking a significant milestone in his career and representing Ghana on the world stage.
