Daddy Lumba’s funeral to be held in Kumasi - Family 

The family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has announced that his funeral will take place in Kumasi, with the date to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, a one‑week memorial observation will be observed in Accra on 30th August 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement released via DL FM, the radio station owned by the late musician.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on 26 July 2025 at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was 60. His death triggered a nationwide outpouring of grief, with tributes pouring in from fans, fellow musicians, political leaders and former presidents.

In honour of his legacy, the Creative Arts Agency, in collaboration with the Fosu family, organised a candlelight vigil at Independence Square on 2 August 2025.

The event, which drew thousands of mourners, was held simultaneously in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands and other parts of Ghana. A book of condolence was opened at his residence on 29th July, 2025 allowing the public to pay their respects.

Daddy Lumba’s musical career spanned nearly four decades, with more than 33 albums and countless hits, including Theresa, Aben Wo Ha, Ohia Asɛm, Playboy, Biribi Gyegye Wo, Seese Wo Se, Woho Kyereand Awoso. 

Widely celebrated as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians, he won numerous awards, including several Ghana Music Awards, the Legend of Entertainment Award at the EMY Africa Awards in 2018, and a Presidential Grand Medal in 2025.

The one‑week observation in Accra is expected to bring together fans, musicians and creative industry leaders to celebrate the life and enduring influence of Daddy Lumba. 

Further details on the burial and funeral arrangements in Kumasi will be communicated by the family in due course.
