Daasebere Otuo Siriboe II, the paramount chief of Juaben, has expressed deep appreciation to the government for naming a model STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school after him.
The recognition was celebrated at a special ceremony coinciding with a visit by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In his address during the durbar held in his honour, the second-longest reigning chief in the Asante Kingdom humbly acknowledged the significance of receiving such a prestigious recognition while still alive. “It means so much to me that this honour is being given to me today, not after I am gone. This moment is for us to share, and I am thankful for it,” Daasebere Otuo Siriboe said, highlighting how meaningful it was to receive the honour in his lifetime.
A strong advocate for education, the chief reflected on how his own STEM education had shaped his personal and professional life. He recalled how his foundation in STEM helped pave the way for his academic and career advancements, eventually allowing him to pursue studies in engineering. “STEM education has been a guiding force in my life. It opened doors for me, and I am proud that the government is taking steps to promote this framework for the younger generation,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Daasebere Otuo Siriboe expressed his excitement for the future of the model STEM school, which is set to become a beacon of learning and innovation for young minds. He emphasized his commitment to engaging with students once the school is fully operational. “I look forward to stepping into the classroom and sharing my experiences with the students. It’s a small way of showing my appreciation for what has been done,” he said.
In a subtle nod to the upcoming elections, the chief also suggested that this initiative could garner significant support for the NPP in the Juaben community. “This is a positive step, and I believe it will translate into support for the NPP come election time,” he remarked, acknowledging the political implications of the government’s educational investment.
The establishment of the model STEM school, bearing Daasebere Otuo Siriboe’s name, not only marks a personal milestone for the chief but also serves as a strategic move towards advancing education in Ghana.
