Twenty young women in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, have completed an intensive, week-long training programme in batik and tie-and-dye textile production, under an empowerment initiative spearheaded by the DA Humanitarian Foundation.

Hosted at the forecourt of the Asogli Palace, the training brought together participants from Ho Technical University (HTU) and unemployed women from the Ho Bankoe community.

The initiative, fully funded by the DA Humanitarian Foundation, underscores the organisation’s enduring commitment to its mission and vision.

Empowering communities, one initiative at a time, lies at the heart of the Foundation’s ethos. Established to drive sustainable change, the organisation addresses pressing societal challenges through innovative programmes, strategic partnerships, and an unwavering dedication to social equity.

Its vision is bold and inspiring: transforming lives and shaping futures. The Foundation envisions a world in which every individual can lead a life of dignity and purpose, free from systemic barriers and inequality.

The training initiative was led by Mama Bobi III, Afetornyornufia of Ho Bankoe in the Asogli State, and the Foundation’s Benefactress and Advocate. Speaking at the closing ceremony, she observed, “We received an overwhelming number of applications. The desire to learn is palpable among young women, yet access to opportunities remains limited. With constrained resources, we could only accommodate 20 applicants this time.”

She further linked the programme to Ghana’s national emphasis on job creation through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). “TVET represents the future. These practical skills are not only marketable but, in many cases, more lucrative than traditional office roles. Women are truly powerful when they are in control of their economic resources,” she stated.

This latest intervention contributes to the Foundation’s expanding portfolio of empowerment initiatives. To date, over 45 young women have received vocational training in tailoring, make-up artistry, bead-making, and soap production.

Many of these beneficiaries have gone on to establish their micro-enterprises, living proof that skills acquisition can catalyse genuine transformation.

One participant, a recent graduate of HTU, shared her experience: “This training has completely shifted my mindset. I used to believe I had to wait for a formal job offer, but now I understand I can create something for myself. I’m already planning to start a small batik business with a friend I met here.”

Building on this momentum, the Foundation intends to establish a permanent training centre in Ho, where past beneficiaries will become instructors themselves, thereby nurturing a cycle of empowerment and sustainability.

Mama Bobi III extended her deepest gratitude to donors and well-wishers and appealed to the public to continue supporting the Foundation’s mission to uplift vulnerable young women and build resilient, equitable communities across Ghana
