Cradle Care, Yumvita bring Christmas cheer to mothers and children at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Cradle Care, an organisation committed to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for mothers and children, has once again spread joy and hope at the Children’s Block of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital through its annual Christmas outreach, held in partnership with Yumvita, an infant cereal brand under Promasidor Ghana.

The event, which forms part of Cradle Care’s yearly Christmas activities, brought relief and festive cheer to over 800 mothers and children on admission at the Children’s Ward.

Families were treated to warm meals, drinks and thoughtful engagements aimed at easing the emotional burden that often comes with spending the festive season in hospital.

This year’s celebration marks the eighth consecutive year Cradle Care has organised the Christmas party, reflecting the organisation’s unwavering commitment to maternal and child welfare.

Cradle Care’s work is centred on the holistic well-being of mothers and their children. The organisation provides a range of services, including healthcare support, counselling, early childhood development initiatives, annual Christmas parties and community outreach programmes.

Through these interventions, Cradle Care seeks to empower mothers, promote healthy child development and build supportive communities where families can access vital resources and emotional support.

Speaking at the event, Founder of Cradle Care, Maame Serwaa Akosua Gyening, highlighted the significance of the initiative and the deeper meaning behind it.

“Christmas is about love, compassion and putting smiles on the faces of people, especially those who may be going through difficult moments. For us at Cradle Care, this outreach is a reminder to mothers and children that they are seen, they are valued, and they are not alone. Even in a hospital setting, Christmas should still bring hope, warmth and joy,” she said.

The event featured a variety of activities designed to lift spirits and create lasting memories for the children and their caregivers. Face painting added colour and excitement to the day, while volunteers spent time engaging mothers who appeared low in spirit, offering words of encouragement and reminding them to look forward with hope. Mothers and children were also given more food and drinks throughout the event, creating an atmosphere of care, abundance and celebration.

Yumvita’s partnership with Cradle Care was driven by shared values around maternal support and child nutrition.

According to the Category Lead for Infant Cereal, Mrs. Emmeline Tagoe, the collaboration aligns strongly with the brand’s mission and purpose.

“As an infant cereal brand, we consider mothers and children as pillars in all our engagements. Our mission is to deliver quality, nutritious and affordable food to all, and this initiative strongly reflects what we stand for.

“Cradle Care reached out to us, and we deemed it fit to partner with them this time around, particularly because of the consistency and impact of the work they continue to do,” she stated.

Promasidor Ghana further demonstrated its commitment to supporting families by donating over 500 exercise books, boxes of Yumvita infant cereal, Cowbell dairy products and Twisco beverages. These items were distributed to mothers and children as part of the Christmas celebration, providing both immediate relief and practical support.

Also present at the event was Lawrencia Akweley Turckson, Head of Engagement and Experience Unit at the Child Health Department, who expressed appreciation to Cradle Care for its sustained efforts.

“We are deeply grateful to Cradle Care for their consistency and dedication over the years. Their continued presence and support bring comfort, encouragement and joy to mothers and children within the Children’s Block, especially during the Christmas season,” she said.
