An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to blogger Samuel Amadotor of Dklassgh.net in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties, following charges that he allegedly published false information aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the former Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio II.
Presiding judge, Her Ladyship Evelyn Asamoah, charged Amadotor with two counts: publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, contrary to Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and publication of false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772).
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the police, Amadotor was arrested at his home after allegedly posting stories and videos online that purportedly damaged the reputation of Ababio.
After hearing submissions from the prosecution and the defence, the court granted bail, though no specific justification for the decision was provided in the ruling.
Speaking after the hearing, Amadotor’s lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbo, welcomed the court’s decision.
The trial is expected to continue following Amadotor’s release on bail.
