Ahmed Suale

An Accra High Court has granted bail to Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the man arrested in connection with the 2019 murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

Mr Koranteng, also known as Kwasi Amakye, is the Managing Director of ISPY Company and is facing a provisional charge of murder.

His arrest followed joint investigations by the FBI and Ghanaian law enforcement authorities.

Court documents and police sources indicate that phone records linked him to Suale in the days leading up to the journalist’s assassination.

Prosecutors also revealed that Mr Koranteng was reportedly present in Suale’s neighbourhood on the night of the murder.

During a prior appearance at the Madina Magistrate Court, Mr Koranteng admitted to photographing Suale but denied claims that he sold the images to politician Kennedy Agyapong.

Mr Agyapong had publicly aired the photographs on national television and allegedly incited the public to harm the journalist.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Suzzy Nyakote, had earlier adjourned the case to allow further investigations.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a member of the Tiger Eye PI investigative team led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot and killed by unknown assailants in January 2019.

His death sparked national and international outrage, with demands for justice from press freedom advocates and human rights organisations.
