NANA ASAASE

Spoken word artist, Nana Asaase has made a passionate appeal to corporate Ghana to contribute more to the creative industry.

He bemoaned the low interest shown by Ghanaian companies, hence their unwillingness to invest in the creative space.

Nana Asaase believes Nigerians working in multinational firms are doing far better at promoting and pumping resources into their entertainment industry. This, according to him, accounts for the thriving showbiz sector in Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, he insisted that corporate Ghana must revisit its policies in order to support the promising showbiz industry.

“When you crossover to Nigeria, there’re multinationals, but there’re Nigerians working in these multinationals. Those Nigerians realised the power of the arts, and they helped push their artists. Here, once they get behind those corporate walls, it is to the detriment of the greater good,” the spoken word artist said.

Nana Asaase urged Ghanaians working in very reputable firms in the country to lead the campaign to get more investments for the industry, just like their counterparts in other West African countries are doing.

“There’re Ghanaians working in very reputable places who have the power and the millions. Now they want to cloud it with corporate directives. The ‘brofo no dey help we.’ Rules are made for people. People are not made for rules, so they can be amended. Somebody calls the shots. It takes people to make these things happen,” he added.

He is of the firm belief that if the right attention is given to the Ghanaian creative industry, the nation will reap a lot of benefits for the greater good of all.

The poet stressed the fact that corporate leaders are the very same people who end up needing local artists and their crafts at certain events, yet they refuse to push the local artists.
