Ghana’s construction leaders have joined the nation in mourning eight prominent citizens killed in a military helicopter crash. The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI) expressed deep sorrow over the August 6th tragedy, which occurred as the aircraft travelled to Obuasi.

In a public statement, the GhCCI offered heartfelt condolences to President John Mahama, Parliament, the government, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the bereaved families.

The Chamber described the accident as a severe blow to the state and a painful shock to the national conscience. “It highlights the deep sacrifice made by public servants who served Ghana with courage and commitment,” the statement noted, confirming all victims were on active national duty.

The deceased included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, and three military officers: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. The Chamber emphasized these individuals were more than officials; they were defenders of peace, champions of sustainable development, and patriots dedicated to nation-building.

As a key infrastructure sector voice, the GhCCI urgently called on the government to evaluate the safety and reliability of transport logistics used for critical national assignments. It stressed that losing leaders in avoidable accidents is unacceptable today. The Chamber demanded a full-scale audit and overhaul of Ghana’s air transportation assets and safety protocols, warning that outdated equipment must never carry high-profile officials.

“This tragedy must spark reflection and transformation, not just mourning,” the statement urged. It asked all citizens to honour the fallen by committing to a safer, more accountable nation. Surveyor Emmanuel Nene Martey, GhCCI Chairman, signed the message while offering prayers for the deceased and comfort for their families. How many more preventable losses must Ghana endure before transport safety becomes non-negotiable?
