Constitution Review Committee submits final report to President Mahama

The Constitution Review Committee has presented its final report to President John Dramani Mahama, marking a key milestone in Ghana’s ongoing constitutional reform process.

The committee, chaired by Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh, Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), was tasked with reviewing the 1992 Constitution and proposing reforms aimed at strengthening Ghana’s democratic governance framework.

The submission of the report brings to a close several months of nationwide consultations and detailed technical analysis conducted by the eight-member committee.

Other members of the committee are Justice Sophia Adinyira, a retired Supreme Court Justice; Professor Kwame Karikari; former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei; Dr Godwin Djokoto; Ibrahim Tanko Amidu; Dr Esi Ansah; and Dr Rainer Akumperigeya.

Among its key recommendations, the committee proposed separating the legislature from the executive. It also noted that there is no constitutional provision for a third term for a President.
