COCOBOD refutes claims of cocoa price increase, cautions against false information

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media suggesting that the government has announced an increase in cocoa prices.

The organisation has described these reports as entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.

In response to the misinformation, COCOBOD emphasised the importance of relying solely on official communication channels for accurate updates on cocoa pricing.

A flyer widely shared on social media alleged that the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, had declared that cocoa farmers would receive 70% of the world market price. However, COCOBOD has dismissed this as misleading.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices.

This information is completely untrue,” COCOBOD stated in a post on its official social media page. It further urged stakeholders and the public to refrain from spreading such falsehoods and to rely on verified sources for information.

The controversy arises at a time when cocoa farmers and industry stakeholders are closely monitoring potential price adjustments amid fluctuations in global cocoa markets.

The issue of pricing remains a critical concern, given the rising costs of production, climate-related risks, and challenges affecting cocoa output.

Farmers have long advocated for higher prices that reflect their operational realities.

However, COCOBOD reassured that any future price changes would be communicated through the appropriate official channels to prevent misinformation and unnecessary speculation.
