The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), has called on Ghanaians to embrace cleanliness not only as an environmental responsibility but also as a moral and spiritual obligation.
In his 2026 New Year message to Ghanaians, the Moderator emphasised that the church’s theme for the year, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Keep Clean!”, goes beyond sweeping streets and maintaining tidy surroundings. He explained that true cleanliness encompasses purity of character, integrity of heart, and discipline of mind and attitude.
According to him, holistic cleanliness involves the spirit, soul, and body and serves as the foundation for healthy living and a society that attracts God’s presence and blessings.
He urged citizens to keep clean by forgiving one another, guarding their thoughts against negativity, strengthening their faith in God, and caring responsibly for the environment.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Agbeko stressed that a clean nation is built not only through sanitation efforts but through clean relationships, ethical conduct, and peaceful coexistence. He noted that living clean lives reflects the nature of God and contributes to national unity and development.
The EP Church Moderator also prayed for Ghana’s leadership and called for collective responsibility in keeping the country clean, healthy, and strong throughout 2026, as the nation strives for righteousness and sustainable growth.
