CJ nominee pledges to restore confidence in Judiciary

Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has vowed to restore public confidence in Ghana’s judiciary and strengthen the nation’s highest court if given the mandate to serve.

He made this pledge when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, November 10.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie said he was fully aware of the weight of responsibility that comes with the office and pledged to uphold the integrity and credibility of the justice system.

He promised to work collaboratively with judges, Parliament, and all stakeholders to rebuild trust in the judiciary and deliver justice that is transparent, timely, and accountable.

“With your guidance and cooperation, I pledge to restore confidence in our highest institution and leave it stronger than I found it,” he stated.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also assured the Committee of his commitment to ensuring that the law serves all citizens fairly, acting as both a protector and a check on power.

He emphasised that the Constitution entrusts the Chief Justice not merely with adjudicating cases, but with safeguarding the credibility and conscience of the judiciary.

He added that if given the nod, “I will stand with every judge, court user, and citizen in the belief that access to justice should not depend on who you are or your connections.”
