After a successful 2025 conference of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) last week, the Institute, on Friday, 20th June, 2025, held its 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM), since attaining a charter status in 2020.

In his welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of CIHRM, Dr. Francis Eduku said, coming from a highly successful conference, he is delighted and thankful to the conference planning committee for an incredible job done.

He also thanked the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu for attending the opening ceremony of the Conference and all CIHRM members for making time to attend both the conference and the AGM in such huge numbers.

Dr. Eduku added that the CIHRM had intensified interactions with universities as part of its visibility strategy, saying, “from last year to date, we have signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with four universities: University of Ghana, Central University, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and Ghana Communication Technology University”. This is to ensure that the Institute plays a key role in the Ghanaian economy.

Delivering the report of the Institute, the President of the CIHRM, Florence Hutchful reported that though the Institute managed to increase its membership in all categories, payment of membership subscriptions declined by 21%.

Mrs. Hutchful attributed the decline of the subscription in 2024 to the fact that a significant number of members did not meet their payment obligations, compared to 2023.

She also attributed the decline to the fact that many members with arrears from prior years did not regularise their outstanding payments.

She said income generated from annual subscriptions for 2024 was GH₵ 443,600.00 against GH₵563,120.00 in 2023.

She urged members to honour the payments of their subscription timely manner to enable the Institute to carry out its annual programmes and activities.

She indicated that the CIHRM would continue to invest in publicity and public education to enhance its visibility as the only legally mandated HR professional body established by law to regulate the practice of human resource management and maintain HR standards in Ghana.

The President of CIHRM emphasised that they would continue to collaborate and work closely with its Learning Partners to establish its presence in all regional capitals in the country as well as pursue partnership arrangements with organisers of the Africa HR Summit, the Global Conference on Human Resources in Africa (GCHRA) Conference, and other reputable international HR professional bodies.

The Guest Speaker at the AGM, Prof. Bill Puplampu, Vice Chancellor of Central University, asked HR Practitioners to take a critical look at their Performance Appraisal system if they want to build a resilient workforce.

Speaking on the topic: “Building a Resilient, Trustworthy and High-Performance Workforce”, Prof. Puplampu said, HR people should create an HR system where people are helped to build roots in the organisation and in their profession because rootedness builds resilience.

He explained that a resilient workforce is the one that remains engaged, committed and thoughtful while effectively adapting to and recovering from challenges, changes and adversity.

According to him, he has found from many years of organisational psychology and HR practice, as well as many years in University leadership, that inclusiveness assists in recognising that good, effort and contribution can come from many different corners of the broad workforce.

At the AGM, the Institute inducted new members into “Full Membership” status.
