CID dismantles human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate, rescues 57 Nigerians in Accra

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has apprehended five individuals and rescued 57 Nigerian nationals from an alleged human trafficking and cybercrime network operating within Adom Estates, Community 25, in the Greater Accra Region.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, was executed by the CID’s Operations Unit following weeks of surveillance and monitoring of the syndicate’s activities.

Police identified the suspects as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko, who are accused of orchestrating a criminal enterprise that deceived young Nigerians with fraudulent promises of lucrative jobs and academic opportunities in Ghana.

A statement issued by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, indicated that preliminary findings showed the victims—aged between 18 and 26—were coerced into engaging in online romance scams and other illicit cyber activities upon their arrival in Ghana.

During the raid, officers recovered 77 laptops, 38 mobile phones, two vehicles, three television sets, and several other digital devices believed to have been used to perpetrate the crimes.
