'Christmas babies' in Volta and Oti regions receive MTN hampers as network expansion project begins

Sixty babies born on Christmas Day have received baby hampers from MTN Ghana as part of the company’s annual Christmas Baby Hamper initiative in the Volta and Oti Regions, bringing joy and support to mothers delivering during the festive season.

The donation exercise was carried out at selected health facilities in the region. In Ho, the beneficiary hospitals included the Ho Teaching Hospital, Ho Municipal Hospital, and the Ho Polyclinic.

Other facilities that benefited were Emmanuel MediHospital, Comboni Hospital in Sogakope, and the Sogakope District Hospital.

Over the years, the project has been dedicated to recognising mothers who give birth on December 25, a day when most people celebrate with their families.

Speaking during the event, Volta and Oti Regional Team Lead of MTN Ghana, Mawuli Katahena, said the programme is designed to put smiles on the faces of mothers who are in labour while others are celebrating Christmas.

He noted that MTN staff voluntarily give up their holiday time each year to participate in the exercise because they see it as a worthwhile and humane gesture.

Mr Katahena explained that MTN has expanded the number of hospitals benefiting from the programme to reach more mothers across the region. He added that the company remains committed to sustaining the initiative and plans to expand it further in the coming years.

Beyond the donation exercise, Mr Katahena announced that MTN has received approval for a network expansion project in the Volta and Oti Regions.

He said the company recognises the increasing demand for reliable network and internet services due to population growth and is committed to addressing coverage gaps.

The expansion project will extend network services to communities that currently have no connectivity. Fibre broadband infrastructure is also being introduced in Ho to provide high-speed internet to small and medium-sized enterprises and individuals.

The fibre rollout, described as the first of its kind in the region, is expected to significantly improve internet access in the municipality.

The project will later be expanded to other municipalities, including Hohoe, Nkwanta, and Krachi, as part of MTN’s long-term plan to strengthen connectivity across the Volta and Oti Regions.

Staff and workers of the beneficiary health facilities expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for the support, describing the donation as timely and encouraging for both staff and mothers.

Mothers of the newborn babies also expressed joy and appreciation, noting that the hampers would help them care for their babies in the early days after delivery.

Both the mothers and hospital staff offered prayers for God’s blessings, success, and continued prosperity for MTN Ghana, calling on other organisations to emulate the gesture and support communities during the festive season.
