Ghanaian playwright and poet, Chief Moomen has charged the President Nana Akufo-Addo to take inspiration from American Vice President Kamala Harris who took with her some creatives on her African tour.

Kamala who visited Ghana last week also came with actor Spike Lee, actress Sheryl Ralph Lee, among other creatives.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Chief noted that the US Vice President and her government were deliberate in adding creatives to her entourage.

“Kamala Harris comes to Ghana, she doesn’t come alone. She decides to come with an entourage of creative colossi in the United States. A President flying with all these people,” he said.

“How many times does our President travel to conferences, opportunities abroad and say let’s carry some of our creatives? Sometimes, they will say business leaders,” he added.

The Mansa World playwright also spoke about the number of activities Kamala held in Ghana and how she make sure she involved the creative community.

“When Kamala came to Ghana look at the number of events she had. She had a session with creatives at some studio with some creatives. That was deliberate. They brought together a few journalists and creatives to interact with her,” he further noted.

Urging the President, Nana Addo to take inspiration from this, Chief said “some of these things are what shows this is deliberate.”

A lot of people have also made reference to Kwame Nkrumah and how dedicated he was to the arts when he was the President of Ghana.

In Professor John Collins’ book Nkrumah and Highlife, he wrote that: “several highlife bands accompanied Nkrumah and represented Ghana at Pan African and international events. One particular case was that of the Tempos, who visited Guinea just after its independence in 1958 when, as E.T.”

Chief Moomen’s statement comes on the back Spike Lee’s comment that no one from the creative industry approached him for a meeting when he visisted Ghana.

However, the Director of the Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, Akwasi Awuah Ababio, disclosed how he facilitated an engagement with America actor Spike Lee and some institutions when the latter visited Ghana.

He said American officials requested from his office that they would want Spike Lee to talk to some government officials.

“We had facilitated that, exactly as they wanted it. There in my office right out when they asked for it, they were able to speak to the Director of Creative Arts, then [they] mentioned that Ministry of Tourism was going to be an interest to them, the GTA etc. So we did bring the issue up and told them what exactly they should do,” Akwasi Awuah said.

He said he then left in the hands of the American officials to take up the execution.
