Chief Justice urges judicial staff to uphold compassion and professionalism

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has called on all judicial officers to demonstrate compassion, courtesy, and professionalism in their interactions with court users, stressing that such conduct is fundamental to the judiciary’s mission of delivering accessible, high-quality justice.

He made the appeal during the maiden Annual General Meeting of the Judicial Service Staff Co-operative Fund (JUSCOFund) held at the Law Court Complex in Accra.

Established in 2023, the fund was designed to help staff build financial security through savings, affordable credit and long-term investment planning.

This year’s AGM, held under the theme “Securing the Financial Future of Judicial Workers through Financial Co-operative Models”, also featured the launch of the Judicial City Estates Project at Kordiabe in the Shai Osudoku District.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Justice reminded staff of the newly introduced Constitutional Instrument, which outlines a code of conduct that reinforces ethical discipline, accountability and professional excellence.

“As Chief Justice, I remain the Chief Servant, and our collective fidelity must be to the law and the Constitution,” he emphasised.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also highlighted the significant progress made within the Judicial Service over recent years, attributing improvements in staff welfare and institutional performance to collaboration and a shared commitment to reforms.

“These gains are not accidental. They are the result of collaboration, mutual respect and the shared understanding that justice delivery is only as strong as the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold it,” he noted.

He further revealed that the Judicial Service had secured Presidential approval for the long-awaited Constitutional Instrument 141—formally known as the Judicial Service (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulation, 2025—after three decades of delay.

“I am pleased to note that CI 141 matured into law in November 2025,” he announced.
