The appreciation of the Ghana cedi is already having a noticeable effect at the first mini-clinic of the 2025 Ecobank JoyNews Habitat Fair.

Several exhibitors say improved exchange rates are helping reduce operational costs, a benefit they’re passing on to customers through lower prices and attractive discounts.

Hosted at the Achimota Retail Centre, the fair has officially kicked off today, Friday, June 20, and will run through Sunday, June 22. Themed “Dream it, Own it, Live it,” the event is expected to attract hundreds of prospective homeowners, real estate developers, and vendors over its three-day run.

Cedi strength boosts business confidence

Many exhibitors, including suppliers of building materials, home furnishings, roofing solutions, and finishing products, have cited the cedi’s recent gains as a major factor in their ability to offer cost relief to clients.

“With the appreciation of the cedi, we’ve been able to reduce some of our input costs, especially on imported items,” said Ama Boateng, a representative from a home appliances vendor.

The mini-clinic is part of a series of events leading up to the main Ecobank JoyNews Habitat Fair, Ghana’s premier property and lifestyle exhibition.

It brings together key players across the housing value chain  from architecture and construction to financing, interior design, and real estate consulting.

Exhibitors include:

Roofing companies

Plumbing and sanitaryware providers

Furniture and home décor brands

Banks and mortgage institutions

Construction and finishing material suppliers

Empowering Ghanaians to Own Their Homes

Organisers’ say this year’s theme, “Dream it, Own it, Live it,” is a call to action for every Ghanaian ready to pursue homeownership or upgrade their current living space.

“We’re not just selling products — we’re offering solutions and guidance to help Ghanaians achieve their housing dreams,” said a spokesperson from JoyNews.

Whether you’re building from the ground up, seeking affordable housing, or simply looking for design inspiration, the mini-clinic is the ideal space to connect with industry experts and discover quality, affordable options.

More Clinics and Main Fair Ahead

This is just the beginning. Additional mini-clinics will be held across Accra and Kumasi in the coming months, leading up to the main Ecobank JoyNews Habitat Fair later this year.

The fair is a large-scale event that brings together all players under one roof at the Accra International Conference Centre.
