An Aide to the Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has rebuffed calls by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to have former president Mahama arrested over his ‘do or die’ comment.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu claims that heeding the request would be a waste of the police’s time.

“The truth is that that petition that has been sent by the NPP is a piece of drivel that must be cast into the nearest dustbin. I’m sure that the Ghana Police Service has better use for their time than chasing such ridiculous endeavors,” he said on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday.

The aide further stated that the call by NPP Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye IS an indication that the ruling party in government, the NPP, did not have their priorities set right.

According to him, there were other essential issues that ought to be paid attention to.

“They clearly are not serious and focused on the important things that matter to the people of this country. For a party that in government has supervised the kind of economic mess and rotten the key that has plunged Ghanaians into this sort of suffering, you would think that they will spend all their time to find solutions to the problem and will not waste precious time on such irrelevant matter,” Mr Ofosu claimed.

Thence, he insisted that the call for the invitation from the police that was being anticipated by the NPP will never happen.

“When it comes, it will portray the Ghana police service as an organization that is not serious,” he emphasised.

In 2021, John Dramani Mahama, during his ‘Thank you tour’ stated that a lesson learnt by the NDC from the 2020 elections was that the elections were won at the polling station.

Thus, he stated that in the 2024 elections, it will be a ‘do-or-die’ affair for the NDC at the polls because they [NDC] will be vigilant.

“We were clearly robbed but we accepted the verdict for the sake of peace, but I want to state here that the next elections would be won or lost at the polling station. So at the polling station, it will be do or die. I am not saying all die be die. I’m saying it will be do or die because the right thing must be done,” Mr Mahama said on Akina FM.

But in a petition forwarded to the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) by the NPP on Wednesday, April 12, Mr Boakye described the former president’s comments as treasonous.

Thus the NPP’s imploration for the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Mr Mahama over the ‘do-or-die’ comment.
