CalBank's 2024/25 national service cohort constructs classroom block for Asuom M.A. Basic School

CalBank PLC, in partnership with its 2024/25 National Service cohort, has commissioned a newly constructed two-classroom block for the Asuom M.A. Basic School in the Ga South District of the Greater Accra Region.

The project, valued at approximately GHS 450,000, comes fully equipped with modern amenities to enhance teaching and learning for the school’s over 200 pupils.

It includes the replacement of black chalkboards with whiteboards and markers, as well as the installation of LED lighting and switches in classrooms that previously lacked electricity.

This initiative forms part of CalBank’s longstanding tradition of instilling community responsibility in its national service personnel, who contribute a portion of their monthly income to fund such projects.

It also reflects the bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) pillars of Education, Health, and Philanthropy.

The 2024/25 cohort’s efforts build on the legacy of the previous group, who in 2023/24 constructed a classroom block for the Sowah Dean Cluster of Schools at Ashaley Botwe.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Johnson Oware, Deputy Managing Director of CalBank, praised the dedication of the 122 service personnel who made the project possible.

“At CalBank, we believe in nurturing responsible citizens. This initiative not only impacts the lives of young pupils but also teaches our service personnel the importance of giving back to society. I commend their sacrifice and urge the teachers and pupils to maintain this facility for generations to benefit,” he said.

Headmistress of Asuom M.A. Basic School, Madam Yaa Kusi-Ameyaa, expressed appreciation to CalBank and the 2024/25 cohort: “We are deeply grateful for this invaluable support. This facility will go a long way in creating a conducive learning environment, and we assure you it will be well maintained and put to good use.”

Mr. Delali Adiamah, Project Consultant and Contractor, also commended the initiative, noting his company’s support for the effort.

“Recognizing the sacrifice of the national service personnel, we waived most of our charges to support this noble cause. We are proud to have partnered with CalBank to bring this project to life”, he added.

CalBank has reiterated its commitment to championing sustainable community development projects, with education at the forefront of its corporate social investment agenda.
