CalBank reaffirms commitment to youth development at Tertiary Unlocked 2025

CalBank says it remains committed to supporting young people with the skills and guidance needed to transition successfully into tertiary education and the world of work.

Speaking to JoyBusiness at the 2025 edition of Tertiary Unlocked, Head of Youth Banking at CalBank, Nannie Abankwah, said the bank’s partnership with the initiative reflects its long-term strategy of empowering Ghana’s next generation of innovators and professionals.

According to her, CalBank’s Youth Banking Unit is focused on providing young people with practical financial knowledge, career development opportunities, and platforms that help them unlock their potential.

“Tertiary Unlocked creates the space for students to discover themselves, build confidence, and design a purposeful academic journey. As a bank that believes in youth empowerment, we are proud to be part of a programme that helps shape future leaders,” she said.

The 2025 event, held at the CalBank Head Office, brought together senior high school graduates, industry experts, and facilitators to explore the theme “Designing Your Tertiary Journey: Learn, Innovate, Succeed.” Participants were exposed to design thinking techniques, career guidance, and hands-on problem-solving activities aimed at preparing them for both academia and the job market.

Task2Hire Launched

A major highlight of this year’s programme was the launch of Task2Hire, an edtech solution created to help tertiary students and young graduates develop soft skills through real-world tasks while connecting them to career development opportunities.

The launch was introduced during a reflective Self-Discovery Workshop facilitated by Akua Ampah, Founder and Lead Consultant of ClearPath Career Consult and convener of Tertiary Unlocked.

Speaking to JoyBusiness, Akua Ampah explained that the idea behind Task2Hire is to bridge the gap between learning and practical experience.

“Today’s students need more than academic knowledge they need exposure, mentorship, and the ability to solve real problems. Task2Hire is designed to help them build those competencies intentionally,” she said.

She added that the Self-Discovery Workshop was crucial in helping participants understand their strengths, values, and career aspirations before engaging with the new platform.

The event also featured the Problem-Solving and Pitch Challenge, where student teams presented innovative ideas on how employers can attract and retain Gen Z talent. Winners received mentorship, internship opportunities, and other prizes sponsored by CalBank and partner organisations.

CalBank says it will continue to invest in youth-focused programmes that inspire innovation, financial literacy, and responsible career planning.
