The residents of the Western North region have voiced their frustrations about the government’s failure to develop their communities to the National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, John Mahama during his Building Ghana Tour.

In the community, including areas like Bodi, Sehwi, Essam, Debiso, among others, locals highlighted issues such as poor road conditions, deforestation, and challenges in cocoa farming as significant problems affecting their livelihood.

The NDC, led by its flagbearer, wrapped up the tour of the Western North Region with some town hall meetings where residents shared and recounted their challenges.

Many are concerned not only about the poor condition of the town roads but also the deteriorating roads linking to other regions.

“When Mahama was in power, the forest used to be dense and dark. Now, as you pass through, it appears bright because it is empty. Our roads are in poor conditions; the school has been closed down due to these inadequate roads, and our gas supply was depleted two months back solely because of the road conditions,” one resident said.

“In our community, we possess valuable resources like cocoa and timber, yet due to these same poor roads, transportation of goods become challenging, causing immense suffering for us,” another said.

“Since NPP came into power in 2017 everything has fallen apart,” one added.

The majority of Western North Region residents are farmers primarily involved in cocoa cultivation. However, they claim that this occupation has collapsed due to the high cost of fertilizers and other farming inputs.

“The development here is not good. Even when there is money today, look at the level of development. It’s not going well,” one farmer stated. “When you present cases like schools, roads and water to the District Chief Executive (DCE), he tells you he will work on it but he doesn’t.

“I rear animals. The medicines for the animals used to be very low but now we can’t buy them,” another said. “When Mahama comes, he should come and help those of us who are uneducated to get handicrafts.”

Former President John Mahama reassured the residents that if voted into power his government would implement measures to address their concerns.

“Public Broadcasting Company (PBC) began during Kwame Nkrumah’s era and continued functioning, even during my tenure, it operated profitably. However, today PBC has collapsed due to the actions of those who sought to destroy it, including your own directors.”

“Currently they are all aiming to secure position in the parliament house. The NPP is also striving to secure seats in parliament,” the former President stressed.
