Gospel music lovers in Ghana have reason to celebrate, as award-winning gospel artiste Bro Philemon has announced plans to return to the music scene after a long period of relative silence.
Originally from Takoradi and currently based in China, Bro Philemon, known in private life as Ishmael Philemon Ackon, is well known for his stirring vocals and anointed songwriting. Once a prominent fixture in Ghana’s gospel circuit, his absence had left fans wondering if he had stepped away from music for good.
In a recent statement, the gospel minister reassured his followers that he is still grounded in his calling and ready to bless audiences with fresh sounds that reflect both his spiritual depth and global experiences.
“I’ve been occupied with my business work, which admittedly took me away from the music scene for a while. But I’m back, and I’ve got loads of beautiful, soul-soothing music ready for everyone,” he said.
Bro Philemon’s musical accolades are impressive. He was one of the first Ghanaian gospel artistes to win at the inaugural All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Nigeria in 2014. That same year, he received honours at the Africa Gospel Music Awards in the UK and, in 2018, at the Shine Awards as a Foreign-based Ghanaian Artiste.
Over the years, he has quietly worked behind the scenes, reportedly collaborating with international acts from the United States, the United Kingdom and the Philippines. Though these efforts have remained largely under wraps, he now promises a return that will surpass expectations.
Known for powerful songs such as It Is Well, All The Glory, Me Da W’ase (Thank You), Fill Me Up, and Sweetest Name, which featured the legendary Mrs Amy Newman, Bro Philemon is gearing up to release new music that stays true to his signature worship style while embracing a more global, mature sound.
Beyond his music ministry, Bro Philemon is a successful entrepreneur. He serves as CEO of P&D MPC HK CO., LTD. in Hong Kong and Philemon’s Supply Management SZ Co. Limited in Shenzhen, China. His business ventures extend to the Philippines, where he manages high-end establishments including Philemon’s Luxe-Suites Moa and OMP, Wing’s Haven Restaurant Inc., and Bella Vida Beauty Studio & Spa Inc.
These enterprises, while demanding, have given him a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration. As he prepares for his comeback, Bro Philemon emphasises that his approach is not just about doing more, but doing what matters.
“It’s not about doing everything at once, but doing everything with purpose,” he said.
With that mindset, Bro Philemon’s return promises to be one of excellence, impact and spiritual uplift – a fitting next chapter for one of Ghana’s most respected gospel voices.
