The British Council is building a network of Ghanaians who studied in the United Kingdom to afford them opportunities to access employable opportunities.
Students who pursue higher education in the UK will build synergies through an alumni system to increase their professional, social networking and employment opportunities.
Alumni fora in every university are the key source of employment generation.
The UK has been producing the most employable students in the past years.
The British Council aims to bring together the large community of Ghanaians who studied in UK universities.
Director of Programmes and Partnerships at the British Council, Solomon Dormanye, advised students to connect to increase their professional opportunities.
“If we can have them come together to form a solid alumni network, they will be able to share ideas. They can share their experiences too. They can be a resource to up-and-coming graduates who wish to study abroad, but are clueless”, he explained.
The universities in the UK have noticed the inflow of many Ghanaian students in the past decade.
A lecturer at the Publishing Department, KNUST, Dr. Lucy Reekoto, wants both students and universities to keep track of the success and academic journey of students studying in the UK.
She is positive the academic exposure acquired will inspire other students aspiring to study in the UK.
“This is the alumni cocktail reception. Going forward we expect that the network will be built upon. The next time we meet, we will be sharing deeper things and things that will make our lives improve,” she said.
